Tough day on the Wye

Tough day on the Wye
Guiding on the Wye once Oct and Nov arrives can be unpredictable, one day it can be whats known as a red-letter session, the next almost impossible even with the knowledge that the swim fished contains barbel. My last session coincided with low cold water and although we caught it was a tough session when we tried everything to get more bites from scaling hook and hook length right down to using small pellets, even standing waste deep in cold water trying to entice them with a moving bait under a float but whatever we did didn't seem to make a difference, yet in such times you just have to concentrate harder and when the odd bite does come along make sure contact is made.
